This Tony award winning play is in the style of a ‘docudrama’, meaning that the story is about the playwright, Doug Wright, setting out to research a new play about Charlotte von Mahlsdorf.  She is a German transvestite who lived through Nazi occupied Germany.  The play itself is performed by one actor who portrays many different characters, including Doug Wright.  The end of the play includes an actual recording of one of Doug’s interviews with Charlotte.
